After Thala Diwali, it was announced that it will be Thala Pongal in 2014, with director Siva's Ajith starrer 'Veeram' is to hit the screens for Pongal. But as it turns out, the film is not releasing on the very Pongal day, but has been planned to be released a few days earlier, on January 10th. Why such a decision? The film's unit presents a calculative explanation.
As it is well known, the first few days since release proves to be the days of best turnover for the film, as all the youth throng the theatres for big releases within the first 2-3 days. Family audience on the other hand avoid the rush and prefer to watch movies after the first few days, beginning from the fourth or fifth day since release. Further, collection at theatres drops from 100 percent to 80 or 70 percent after the first few days since release, as most people rush in the beginning to watch it right away. So this is where the 'Veeram' team has made ample calculations.
Releasing on the 10th will have all the youth watching it in the first few days. Following the initial rush comes the long holiday season in Tamil Nadu, which is the right time for family hangouts. Encashing on this opportunity, the team is optimistic that collections will be consistent even after the fourth day since release, as family audience will take over on holidays. Therefore, 'Veeram' will reach more audience and will also be a consistent success. Well planned indeed!
